![]() The problem is, that's ultimately what career modes are. Autosport is better than Grid 2, I'll grant, but it's nowhere near as good as the first, which is goddamn sad because Codemasters clearly is aware of how to make a good game.Īs for F1 games, they're little more than sequences of races. Grid Autosport doesn't make the list because it' not as good as Race Driver GRID, which in turn doesn't take the top slot because it's somehow the best of the entire GRID series and also came out in 2008, which is absurd. They don't really have much interactivity, but you can put 12 races in a row and try to win them, which is. Otherwise you're looking at a whole lot of championship season modes. GT Legends has an alright career mode, but the game's from frickin' 2005, and you're going to know it.Īssetto Corsa's "Career" mode is essentially a series of challenges up to a point, and then becomes a championship mode. ignoring 2015 which essentially removed Career mode in favor of two single-player game modes (well, one, and then a second that is just a restricted subset of the first one) that don't let you treat the game as "your career," but rather put you in the seat of someone else's pants for a single year. Beyond that, you're getting something that's not great.Ĭodemasters F1 games are alright, offering varying levels of input from the driver on how they want to do things, but it's essentially a championship mode. You start as a freelance driver, win a few races, get yourself into your own car, and eventually build your own racing team with other drivers and everything. The original Race Driver GRID has the best of the GRID series. That said, I've always enjoyed Gran Turismo's career mode, and Forza's is well-liked by many as well. But there's no other game I know of that lets you start off as an entry-level driver and work your way up the ranks, except for Project CARS. The FFB isn't great, but it can be tweaked to work well. On PC, the best career mode is Project CARS, hands down. This includes promotion of YouTube or Twitch channels, an artist's social media pages, and leagues.
